1.31.13 MAGNITUD/E | 6pm to 9pm | FotoFest| FREE {HTX}
Magnitud/e is a bilingual literary event that brings together five contemporary poets from Northern Mexico and Houston to create a dialogue around the on-going violence in Mexico.
The performances will use a variety of techniques from appropriation to translation and slam poetry to post-conceptual writing. Their work is challenging, fresh and innovative. Spanish works will be presented with translations into English.
John Pluecker was instrumental to bring writers from Northern Mexico to Houston to spark cross-border dialogue. Featured poets are Minerva Reynosa, Marco Antonio Huerta, Sara Uribe, John Pluecker and Lupe Méndez.
Reception begins at 6pm and the program will start at 7pm.

8.12.12 - 8.18.12 /Word Around Town 2012 Tour {HTX}
The Word Around Town (W.A.T?!) Tour is now in its seventh year. This 7 day tour focuses its attention on a solid line-up of Houston’s best and brightest poets.
Everynight is FREE and starts at 8pm.

6.21.12/ThoughtCrime/Word Around Town 2012 Poetry Draft {HTX}
This year, to shake up the status quo, W.A.T?! has decided to host a one-night “Poetry Draft” – any and all poets are invited to bring their best work and read in front of a crowd and W.A.T?! organizers. The prize: a slot in this year’s line-up for the Word Around Town Poetry Tour. Currently, seven slots are up for the taking.
HOW THE DRAFT WILL WORK
Each poet will perform two poems in an open mic setting in front of the organizers and an audiance. The organizers will announce their decisions the following week via email.

Please come out and show your support for spoken word and interdisciplinary arts.Spacetaker//Fresh Arts will host Make.Play.Speak. at Boheme Cafe and Wine Bar for Cultured Cocktails on Thursday, June 28th. This special happy hour will also benefit Word Around Town 2012 Poetry Tour and other spoken word artists//events in the Houston area. Performers will be added soon. There will be music, laughter, poetry and of course social lubricants (libations.)

Interstate Poetry Showdown {HTX}
Five River Writer poets from Baton Rouge will take turns turning out poetic tales with five Houston area poets. Interstate will be after the Indie Book Festival 7pm to 10:00pm at Deans on Main (next to Notsuoh) 316 Main St. on Thursday, April 14th. Poets who performed: Stephen Gros, Chris Wise, Alex Wukman, Tracy Lyall, Lupe Mendez, BGK, Phillip Zimmerlee, Christopher Shipman and Ben Lowenkron.
